It is common knowledge not to go near a new mother dog when she first has her liter of puppies. Why is this? Because she is defensive, territorial, and protective (as most animal mothers are). Common knowledge is to give her space, so that she can feel at ease and not threatened.

However if you do not abide by this, and push her boundaries, you run the risk of not only being growled at but also very possibly bit or severely attacked. A dog, like most animals, first instinct is to protect their young from anything they deem is a threat.

This defense mechanism, in a way, carries over into the human world. Throughout human’s entire existence we have, in some way, defended ourselves against all kinds of threats.

Nowadays, we still find ourselves with that same instinct. For instance, if someone was to get mugged their first instinct is to defend themselves in whatever way they can. The knowing of how to defend oneself by using martial arts is defined as ” self defense” arts.

It still applies in this day and age. When someone is attacked in say, a parking lot, they have to defense themselves. It is an instinct to lash out and defend oneself in a time of feeling threatened. We consider knowledge of how to defend oneself as ‘ self-defense” arts that through different maneuvers and movements creative a defense system.

These are designed not just for men, but for women as well. It is important that both genders feel safe and secure.

Regardless of which type of self-defense techniques you learn, the key thing to remember is that as long as you use common sense to avoid sketchy situations that could result in needing self-defense, you will be a lot better off. It is important to think wisely before entering curtain situations that could result in needing self-defense.
