People are often divided on whether to write a letter to someone whom you just broke up with the intent of going back to the relationship. Whether they agree with you or not is irrelevant.

There are a number of ways you can write a letter. In general though, there are guidelines that can be followed so that the letter will be received more positively by the aggrieved party.

First, it’s not recommended that you write a letter just after a break-up. Letters written at the height of emotional distress should be crumpled and thrown away, or even burned. You can be sure that the contents of the letter will do nothing to improve the already broken relationship.

After all, you want the contents of your letter to be effective in getting the results you wants. You don’t want to sound desperate and angry – sure things that will push your ex-lover away. A good time to write the letter is after you have calmed down and composed yourself.

The next guideline is timing. When should the letter be sent? Definitely not right after the break up. If you feel as hurt as you do, then probably your ex feels the same way.

When you agreed to breakup, let it settle first before you send a letter asking him to come back to you. The guy will only get confused and worst feel that you are pathetic and decide to completely leave you forever. So, be patient and sensitive enough to know when you should send the letter to explain how you feel.

Finally, be careful of making promises. If the reason you broke up was because of something you did, then making any promises at this point will only remind him why you two broke up. Instead, agree with his decision and be honest. Ask for his forgiveness and then ask him if you two can try to make things work out.

So, if chances are you will be rejected, should you be writing a reconciliation letter? If you feel he and your relationship is worth it, then of course. Pride aside, there is no harm in trying. Just follow the three simple guidelines to help you out.
