Learning How To Accept The Gift Of Kindness

How often have you been turned down when you were offering a drink to a friend? Have you ever stopped to wonder why the fact is? You are not alone; a lot of people turn things down out of habit.

I get in this mind set a lot. Others are trying to help but I’m independent or really stubborn and want to do things on my own. I don’t want to let anyone go out of their way on my account.

In the book Ņ15 minutes in heaven it describes an awful tale of heart break. The man in the story had a bad car accident. After all the hospital stress the first few days, he found himself unable to do anything for himself. His total inability had to be really tough.

He had to learn all new habits. He had built into his life the habits of helping others and being of service to humanity and now he could not do it. What is worse is that he found himself unable to gracefully accept the offers of people all around him that wished to help. They would offer him thing to read and drink and before he knew it he was turning them down.

Thankfully he had a good friend who came in and sized the situation up. He told the man that he was being selfish not to take the kindness of these folks. He instructed that these people get joy from serving him. So he need to quit ruining there fun.

Why is it that we resist other helping us? What is it that causes us to push others away. If we would open up to them and let them help we would be amazed and the results. Watch that habit of saying no to any offering. Accepting it can be a step to friendship that is lasting.

The point is that you have to guard yourself. Open up to people and let them do something for you. Let them feel the reward of a job well done.

Dreams Of Friends

A young woman named Suzy asked me to interpret a disturbing dream she had experienced that had both scared her and confused her because of the content and details of the dream, she thought the dream may have been for her. After describing the dream to me and hearing the interpretation, Suzy was relieved to learn that the dream was not about her at all, but for a close friend she had known for years. The dream opens at night with Suzy on the outside of her friend’s house standing on the lawn looking at the front door. After a moment, she slowly climbs up the steps, crosses the wooden porch and enters the house. Entering the darkly lit house, Suzy’s friend meets her and together they transverse down a hallway and into her friend’s bathroom. Inside the bathroom, Suzy asks her friend how her mother was doing; to which her friend replied that her mother was dead, and that she had killed herself in that very same bathroom.

Taken aback by what she had just heard, Suzy looked around the bathroom for signs of a suicide. But after glancing over each wall and seeing the bathroom spotless and clean, there were neither signs of blood anywhere, nor any evidence of suicide. Seeing Suzy looking around the bathroom, the friend said, “I cleaned the bathroom after my mother’s death.”

At this point in the dream, the bathroom suddenly changed from the bathroom in her friend’s house to Suzy’s own bathroom. Yet, even through this fast transition, Suzy said, she had the feeling that she and her friend were still standing in her friend’s bathroom. The only difference between the two bathrooms was that the bathroom where they now stood was painted a bright white and the bathroom door was opened against the wall, hiding the inside surface of the bathroom door.

Suzy’s friend walked over, closed the bathroom door which now revealed a blood-stained door. Not responding to the blood covering the inside of the door, Suzy’s friend picked up a white towel, walked over and joined her in the middle of the bathroom. Uneasy seeing the blood, Suzy stood in the center of the room and simply continued to stare at the bloody surface of the door.

Silently standing next to each other. Suzy friend finally turns to says, “I’m going to wipe the blood off.” Then quietly taking the towel she starts to wipe the blood off the door, as Suzy watches. Yet, try as she may she cannot remove the blood, but only is able to smear on the surface of the door. Confused, Suzy continues to watch her friend try to wipe the blood off the door, but suddenly wakes up out of the dream.

The other day I walked past my son, who was studying at the kitchen table. He had a science test coming up, so I asked him what grade he expected. I was very surprised at his answer.

He told me that he expected to get an A – “of course!” I was impressed by this. How confident he sounded, and how sure that he’d get what he was trying for! Then I started to think about this in more depth.

I asked myself whether things were like that when I was young, and I remembered that they were for the most part. Remember back into childhood – didn’t we expect that things would always work out and that good things would happen for us? At some point along the path of growing up, many of us stopped believing in this. What happened?

I understand that life isn’t always a bed of roses. Things happen, and we stop having nave belief that all will be just fine. Still, there are some people who keep that optimism throughout their lifetimes.

One thing I find very interesting. When I think about it, the people who keep that optimism and hopeful outlook seem to have lives that flow easier and just plain work better. I wonder if there isn’t a connection between expecting a good outcome and getting it?

See if you can’t copy those optimists, even if only for a day. You may find that you notice more good in your life, and more good in the world.

Being in that zone helps us to relax and take charge. We believe that life is manageable and will work out – and so it is and it does. If you try this for a day, you will probably be amazed. It’s even possible you’ll decide to make this your new outlook.

My son, by the way, did great on his exam. He got an A+. One of these days I’m going to ask him about his “attraction tricks.” When he tells me how he did it, I’ll be sure to share his tips with you.

Troubling Signals Of A Marriage

Your marriage is very important : it is the basis of your adult life. It forms the symbol of your commitment to your spouse, and it also connects two families via this legal relationship.

Also, it is often the start of your own family. You will probably bear and raise children. This isn’t always easy. You need to be prepared for the juggling. You’ll be managing responsibilities for children, work, and your relationship.

Remember that love can shift over time. There are normal fluctuations to it, and it also can be affected by the living situation you are in. Sometimes love can start to fade. If you think your love is fading, check for these three signs:

1. You start to lie to your spouse. Truth and trust are the basis of a strong marital bond. When you lie to your spouse, even about the little stuff, it’s a problem. This goes for little while lies too.

Now, sometimes we will tell a loved one a white lie with good intentions, to avoid hurting feelings. This can snowball though and lead to larger lies that will become problematic.

2. Lots of arguments over small things. Every couple will argue sometimes. It isn’t the argument that is the problem per se. If you are arguing frequently, though, this is troubling, especially if you are arguing about silly little things that you wouldn’t have argued about months back. This shows a reduction in tolerance for your spouse.

When you argue, you can start to feel angry and frustration also. You need to keep them in check, because if you really let fly and say and do hurtful things this will damage your marriage.

3. Infrequent intimacy with your spouse. Passion and intimacy are natural when your love bond is strong. We feel passionate when we are in love, and intimacy is not a chore or a rarity. If you find that you and your spouse are rarely intimate, then you are likely experiencing a weakening bond and your love is having trouble.

If you notice any of these signs that your loving relationship is in trouble, take steps to repair your union before it degrades to a critical point.
